The place was not sold out so they could have set other tables rather than rush us out. The waitress at the buffet dinner just wanted us to hurry up and finish so she could set up for the 7pm sitting. ![]() They were nice but not necessarily service-oriented. Personnel - The people working here seemed to be seasonal and not really certain of what to do. Flamingoes are crammed into a small pond, the birds in the aviary can't fly within the confinement, caracal kept pacing back and forth, the cheetah was walking in circles within it's cage, the red ruffed lemurs are also in such a small cage. Safari drive - It was just sad to see the animals in this condition. What kid could land that? The one hour for a few minutes with each animal was a waste of money. Obviously they are not feeding them a balanced diet! On this tour, the hyenas are fed two hard boiled eggs and they have to be thrown over a 10-12 ft fence. ![]() The guide said that they were busted for feeding the warthogs sweet potatoes because they got fat. ![]() Up Close and Personal tour - pay $275 to feed five animals in one hour: warthogs, porcupines, bird, giraffes, and hyenas. Given the price of the room, I expected better - for example: there could have been a citronella candle or insect repellant coil around the table and chairs on the deck because there were so many bugs attracted to the lamp at night. Even though a two-bed tent could accommodate four people, you pay extra if you have a 3rd or 4th person who might be a child. I reserved a room and said that my cousin was also booking a room they placed us as far from each other as possible. There is no mention of conservation or a breeding program so it is appears to be for profit only - hence the Tiger King reference. The facility may have acres, but so many animals are crammed into very small cages so it is basically a drive-thru zoo and NOTHING like an African safari at all. Safari West could be renamed Tiger King West in that the animals seem miserable, pacing back and forth in over-filled enclosures. I titled this review after Tiger King, but it is NOT because of personnel drama. ![]()
